The Dundurn Tote by Christine Dans of Hammerstitch
The Dundurn Tote is a large waxed canvas shoulder bag with three exterior and two interior pockets. The bag can be made with leather or webbing straps, and the pattern includes two different closure options.
This is a measure-and-cut pattern. All pattern measurements are in inches (imperial). The pattern includes a paper template for the flap.

- 5.5" by 8.5" full-colour booklet
- Inserts for pattern piece labels and leather templates
Materials
- Exterior Fabric: 0.5 yards 10-13 oz waxed canvas (based on 60” wide fabric).
- Lining Fabric: 0.75 yards of quilting cotton or cotton-linen blend.
- Interfacing: 1.5 yards medium-weight fusible woven interfacing (based on 20” wide)
- Optional: one 2.5” by 12.5” piece of heavy stabilizer such as Peltex for bottom reinforcement.
- 60” of 5-6 oz. 1” wide leather strapping (two 30” pieces for the shoulder straps).
- 13” of 5-6 oz. 0.75” wide leather strapping for the keychain and strap reinforcement.
- OR 1.5 yards of cotton or polyester webbing

One 16" and one 8" size #5 zippers
OR 1 yard of size #5 vinyl zippers-by-the-yard and 2 zipper pulls.
Omit long zipper if using a magnetic snap. - (1) 0.75” swivel hook for the keychain.
- 7 small double cap rivets (6mm post)
- 8 medium double cap rivets (8mm post)
- magnetic snap (if using)
- Cutting mat, rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, fabric scissors, wonder clips, pins, iron, fray check, double-sided tape, point turner, seam ripper (just in case!).
- Size 90-14 or 100-16 (denim) needle and a presser foot for your sewing machine.
- Matching or contrasting thread.
- Double cap rivet setter and anvil.
- Hammer or mallet.
- 1/8” drive punch or rotary punch for making holes in your leather and fabric.
