Learn how to sew the Michael Traveler during this 2 Full Day class!
Tara C. Sinclair from UhOh Creations joins us for 2 full (8 hour) days to show you how to sew her pattern, the Michael Traveler. (This class is held at our shop in Spruce Grove, Alberta. At this time we do not offer virtual classes.)

Difficulty Level: For an ADVANCED bag maker with a sewing machine capable of sewing thick layers. Advanced bag maker = individuals have made several bags before, have experience with curves and zippers, and knowledge on basic hardware. They are very confident with their machine and seam allowances.  

Prep Work: There will be 8 to 12 hours prep work required at home before class. You will be cutting and fusing of interfacing and stabilizers for the full bag. All steps within the preparation section of the pattern will need to be completed as well as some simple sewing steps. Your class prep (with video link) will be provided by download right after purchase! 

Techniques / Skills taught:

  • Working with foam
  • Creating an adjustable cross body strap and handles
  • Creating strap anchors
  • Two different finishing methods – turned or bound
  • Zipper pocket installation
  • Creating a cargo pocket
  • Creating an elastic pocket
  • Double zipper gusset installation
  • Twist lock installation
  • Installing purse feet

Tools Required: A rotary cutter, mat and gridded rulers are needed prior to class for prep, but not required on class day. You must have your own sewing machine, with a zipper foot, and basic sewing supplies.

Pattern Required: The pattern is not included in the price of the class. You can purchase the PDF on the UhOh Creations website, or the printed paper version in our shop HERE.

Materials: Please choose light cotton fabric like quilting cotton for your first bag regardless of your sewing ability. Class results cannot be ensured if you stray from the material list.

Guidelines:

  • Sewers must bring their own sewing machine, all materials, and equipment. These can be left in our classroom overnight on Friday.
  • Cutting table, ironing station, coffee and tea will be available.
  • Class is between 9:00 am & 4:30 pm, with a 30 min lunch break at 12:30. You can leave for your lunch or bring a lunch to eat at your sewing table. We do have a microwave and utensils. You are welcome to sew on your own through the break if you choose to.
  • If we don't have our class minimum 2 weeks before class, the class will be cancelled and fees refunded.
  • Class prep instructions (homework) will be available download right after your class purchase. It will also be provided by the instructor and emailed to you 2 - 3 weeks before class. You are welcome to purchase the pattern and supplies before this date if you desire. We can help you with your class supplies in the shop! 
  • There are no refunds on classes, but if you let us know at least 14 days before the class, we can issue you a store credit if you can't make it. If you let us know you can't make it, we will see if we have someone on the waiting list that can buy your spot.
