The real beauty of PONY EXPRESS is the way you can enhance it with embellishments on the front detail and the piped flap. There are many suitable places for rivets, custom embroidery, paint, beading or stencilling. Make PONY EXPRESS dressy, classic, punk or casual with fabric and embellishments. This is not just a bag; it is a blank canvas for your imagination. Go all out and make the optional guitar strap.

• An asymmetrical profile reminiscent of an equestrian saddle
• Piping on the flap and the front body
• Front “stirrup” detail
• Cropped shoulder strap
• Flap stays in place with a hidden velcro strip
• Full-width slip pocket on the back which closes with a magnetic snap
• Inside a zippered pocket and a full-width slip pocket
• 9” (23 cm) strap drop

PRINTING INFORMATION:

• To print, open in the most recently updated ADOBE READER or Adobe Acrobat. (If it is not updated, your pages may print black.) 
• To print accurately, open in ADOBE from a computer, and when printing make sure that the “scaling” is set to “none” or “actual size” in the print properties.
• A 1” x 1” test square is provided.
• Print the templates and measure the square to check printing accuracy

Skill Level:

• PONY EXPRESS will appeal to the artistic or experienced bag maker as it is easily taken up a notch with cork, leather or vinyl, embellishments and the decorative guitar strap but if you really want to keep it simple, omit the front overlay, the piping and the decorative front strap but they are not difficult to do and you’ll be happy if you add them. We promise.

• 1/2 yard (.5 m) quilting weight cotton, linen, cork, leather or vinyl
• Contrast for straps & front detail: 
• 1/8 yard (.1 m) quilting weight cotton, linen, cork, leather or vinyl
• Lining Fabric:  
  
• 2/3 yard (0.5 m) Quilting weight cotton
• Fusible Interfacing & Stabilizers
• 1 yard (0.9 m) fusible woven interfacing, 20 “ (50 cm) wide (e.g., Pellon Shape Flex SF101)
• 1/3 yard (0.3 m) fusible fleece (Pellon Thermolam Plus TP971F)

Zippers, Supplies & Bag Hardware:

• 1 - 6” #3 zipper for inside pocket. Regular dress zipper is a good choice.
• 2 - 1” rectangular rings - unless you are making the GUITAR STRAP.
• 1 - 3/4” (1.9 cm) D-Ring for the DECORATIVE STIRRUP STRAP.
• 3” of 5/8” (7.6 cm of 1.6 cm) hook and loop tape.
• 1 - magnetic snap
• 27” (69 cm) of prepared contrasting piping - enough for the FLAP only and suitable for 3/8” seams.
• 1 small piece of Pellon 809 Decor Bond 2” x 8” (5 cm x 20 cm) for zipper facing
• Double-sided tape, marking chalk or erasable pen. Check to ensure marks will erase from your fabric choice.

Optional Guitar Strap:

• 60” x 6” ” ((150 cm x 15 cm) piece quilting weight cotton, linen, cork and corresponding woven interfacing
• 1 - fat eight or equivalent contrast for BRIDGE.
• 2 - 1-1/2” (3.8 cm) rectangular rings
• 1 - 1-1/2” (3.8 cm) slider
• 2 - 1” (2.5 cm) swivel hooks
• 2 - 1” (2.5 cm) D-rings in place of 1” (2.5 cm) rectangular rings above.

The G to G Campaign supports the voices and expertise of grandmothers in Africa, whose leadership is critical in reclaiming hope and rebuilding resilience across their communities. As part of Grandmothers to Grandmothers, UJAMAA GRANDMAS is committed to the Campaign’s three goals:

• to raise awareness
• to build solidarity and
• to mobilize funds for community-based organizations that support African grandmothers and the children in their care.

UJAMAA BAGETTES is a small sub-set of UJAMAA GRANDMAS, raising funds through the sale of pdf patterns and finished products.
