This bag looks luxurious when made using faux leather. Cork is NOT recommended because most cork fabric won’t wear well with the fold on this bag. Cotton is a great option, but you may want to increase the thickness/stability of your stabilizer to ensure the bag isn’t too slouchy.

For the lining I like to use a quilting cotton or cotton canvas

Whatever fabrics you decide to use, make sure they’re suitable for your sewing machine. For domestic machines, it’s usually best to stick with lighter fabrics, especially for your first bag.

Fabric (I like to use faux leather or cotton canvas for the exterior, and quilting cotton for the lining):
  • 1 yd [100cm] exterior fabric (cork is NOT recommended as it won't wear well on the fold)
  • 1 yd [100cm] lining fabric
Interfacing & Stabilizers:
  • Medium weight woven interfacing - enough for all cotton fabrics (EB-Fuse™ Light, SF101 or similar)
  • 13" [33cm] Medium/firm stabilizer (Decovil Light or similar)
  • 15" [40cm] Ultra firm stabilizer (Peltex 71F or similar)
Zippers:  30" [77cm] #5 Nylon Coil Zipper & 2 x pulls/sliders
Hardware:
Additional Supplies:
  • 17" [44cm] of 3/8" [1cm] wide elastic for pen holders etc (optional)
  • 19" [48cm] of 1 1/2" [4cm] wide elastic for bottle holders (optional - and 2" [5cm] wide elastic will work fine too)
  • 24" [61cm] of 1/8" [4mm] wide piping cord (optional for rolled handles)
