This class is designed to be beginner-friendly, so if you’ve made a few sewing projects and are ready to take things up a notch, this is for you!
You’ll learn how to:
- Choose your size and prepare your pattern pieces
- Select the right batting and fabrics for your ideal jacket weight
- Assemble, quilt, and construct your jacket
- Add unique details or quilt block elements to make your Tamarack truly your own
Before class, (February 16th), you’ll receive a pre-class video and a prep sheet to help you gather supplies and prep your materials — so you can arrive ready to sew and make the most of your weekend! We will email you the link to the video and the prep sheet!

What to Gather:
- Tamarack Jacket Pattern by Grainline Studio (in your size)
- 2 yards of Pattern Ease (for tracing)
- Fabric for outer and lining (amounts per your chosen size)
- Batting of your choice (choose this based on the recommendations in the pre-class video)
- Basic sewing supplies
Machines:
- Bring your own, or rent one from us for the weekend (limited availability — please reserve at registration, see below).
- Dates: Saturday, May 23rd & Sunday, May 24th, 2026
- Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM each day
- Location: Emmaline Bags Inc, 50 Manitoba Crt, Spruce Grove, AB

Skill Level:
- Adventurous Beginner – comfortable with your sewing machine and ready for a fun, guided challenge!
Cost:
- $155.00 (Storewide 10% off discount does not apply)

IMPORTANT DETAILS:
- You will receive an email shortly after your purchase (by the next business day), to confirm you are in the class, and information with helpful links to products & patterns other requirements for the class.
- An email with a link to the prep video & prep sheet, will be sent out to you by Feb 16th. Sewers must complete the prep work that is emailed out before the class dates.
Guidelines:
- Sewers must bring or rent a sewing machine, and bring all materials, & equipment.
- Cutting table, ironing station, coffee and tea will be available.
- This 2 Day Class is between 9:00 am & 4:00 pm, with a 30 min lunch break at 12:00. You can leave for your lunch or bring a lunch to eat at your sewing table. You are welcome to sew on your own through the break if you choose to. Microwave available.

If we don't have our class minimum 2 weeks before class, the class will be cancelled and fees refunded.
- There are no refunds on classes if you can't attend, but if you let us know at least 14 days before the class, we can issue you a store credit. If you let us know you can't make it, we will see if we have someone on the waiting list.

SEWING MACHINE RENTALS:
We have 8 x bernette 08 Straight Stitch sewing machines for rent during Sewcial Sewing days and classes. These are high speed, heavy duty mechanical machines, equipped with an extension table. They work wonderful for bag making, and although they are powerhouse machines, they are not "industrial", making them very easy to use. Just thread and stitch! (Note: They are only straight stitch machines. Brief threading and usage instructions will be provided if required.)
Included with rental:
- Extension Table
- 1 x Standard Straight Stitch Foot
- 1 x Quilting Foot (Other feet available upon request)
- 2 x Bobbins
- Screwdriver
Requirements:
Needle not included. Only to be used with a thread weight of Tex 45 or under. Use with Highspeed (HLx5) needles or any home sewing needle system (130/705 H), such as Schmetz needles. These are all sold in our shop.

An automatic 10% off is applied to when your subtotal reaches $75.00 CAD. When you reach this amount, you will see the discount in your cart!

We strive to always ship by the next business day. Holiday or sale periods my cause slight delays. We provide fulfillment on weekdays only.

Support and stabilize your fabric with our Emmaline brand fusible woven cotton interfacing.
We have 3 weights of all purpose, woven, fusible, interfacing suitable for a range of weights of cotton, wool, faux leather, or knit fabric. These work very well to stiffen and add structure to exterior/interior bag outers & linings, pockets, or garments.
