Svava
Designed by UJAMAA BAGETTES
A hard-working, crossbody or shoulder bag
AMMA is a hard-working, dependable bag that has a unique strap configuration allowing the bag to be worn crossbody long or short, on the shoulder, under the arm, or over the arm.
“AMMA” is Icelandic for “Grandmother” and the AMMA series of bags are named after the ancestors of one of our BAGETTES. Svava was born of Icelandic parents, Benedikt Jonsson and Kristin Baldvinsdottir, in North Dakota, on their way to New Iceland, the interlake area of Manitoba. This large Icelandic community sprung up in the late 1800s and early 1900s and still celebrates its Icelandic heritage with the town of Gimli’s Islendingadagurnin festival every year. We celebrate our great- and grandmothers every day of every year.
SVAVA is written for waxed or coated canvas, cork, or Cordura exterior and is easily adapted for other fabrics. Quilting cotton is suitable for the lining
Emmaline Bags sells BAGETTES patterns online, and all profits from these pattern sales go directly to the Grandmothers Campaign.
