September's Emmaline Maker Series project was the Crescent Tote by Noodlehead, and this little tote turned out to be such a fun one to make!
We chose the Crescent because we loved its curved shape, flat bottom, simple webbing handles, and useful zippered pockets inside and out. It's a manageable project for a confident beginner, but still has enough interesting details to make it an enjoyable sew for more experienced bag makers too.
Three Very Different Looks
One of our favourite things about the Maker Series is seeing how much personality you can give one pattern simply by changing the materials.
For September, we created three very different combinations: Blue Butterflies, Koi Pond, and Soft Woodrose. We played with light canvas, corduroy, colourful linings, coordinating zippers, and webbing to show just how versatile the Crescent can be.
Some of the exact prints we used may come and go, but you can easily create your own version with similar materials from the shop.

A Few Things We Learned Along the Way
For our samples, we used EB-Fuse Heavy on the lining pieces, which gave the tote some lovely structure while still allowing that curved shape to shine. The pattern also uses two zippers, and when working from longer Emmaline zipper lengths, we recommend cutting them about 1" longer than the pattern's finished zipper measurement to allow for the ends.
And don't be afraid to have some fun with the handles! A contrasting or patterned webbing is such an easy way to completely change the personality of this bag.
